Cassie Cobb earned her Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from Texas A&M in 2012. She then continued on to earn her Masters of Science, also in Horticulture, focusing her research on pecan propagation methods. She is passionate about native trees, particularly those that provide edible or other economic benefits.
Cassie started her career in Austin, working at the locally well-known and award-winning garden center The Natural Gardener. It was here that she began to find a love for the woodier plants, trees and shrubs. During her time there, she also taught several workshops on fruit tree grafting, and on growth and care of pecan trees. Near the end, she also taught a botany class at the community college.
Following her time at the nursery, she began an arborist internship at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. There she worked directly with the staff arborist and arboretum manager. She learned not only proper tree care techniques, equipment use and safety, but also learned about the great diversity of Texas oaks and other tree species in Texas. Additionally, she assisted with their Hall of Texas Heroes project, a collection of trees descended from many of the oaks from the “Famous Trees of Texas” book published by Texas A&M Forest Service.
While living in Austin was a good time, Cassie felt it would be better to be closer to home and so took a position at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden following her internship. There she worked as a supervisor in A Woman’s Garden. Working at the arboretum was great experience, however Cassie felt led to get back to focusing on trees. She joined the Fannin Tree Farm Services Team in October 2017.
Cassie has earned her ISA Certified Arborist Certification, and she is a Texas Certified Landscape Professional through TNLA. She plans to continue her education through staying up to date in these fields, as well as earning other credentials pertinent to the tree care industry.
